Sam Albee is set to hit the ground running in the UFC over fighter pay dispute.
“Smilen Sam” parted ways with the UFC in 2022 after eight years in the promotion. The 37-year-old had lost eight straight games before leaving.
It happened during a recent interview on “Ultimate Punching!” Sam Alvey supports the UFC when it comes to fighter pay, saying that in fact, many fighters don’t deserve the money they receive from the UFC.
“Most cards are paid far more than the value of the card. I want to give you an example, my first win in the UFC ended in Australia. Called there, flew my opponent and his corner there, we got off the plane, they gave us a thousand dollars, they got off the plane, they received a thousand dollars And we did the math, and after our fight was over, the UFC probably spent $50,000 to $70,000 on our fight and didn’t get a dime from us. No one tuned in to see ‘Smile’N’ Sam Alvey.’
Sam Alvey continued (h/t MMANews):
“They paid us $70,000 to fight. That’s a tremendous amount of money, but we haven’t done anything to deserve it.”
Albee feels that way, but many fighters disagree. Francis Ngannou, Jon Jones, Sean Strickland and Paula Costa have all publicly criticized the pay of fighters within the UFC.
As for what Alvey is currently doing, he most recently faced Cameron Graham (5 wins, 13 losses in MMA) in his heavyweight debut at B2 Fighting Series 183 last May, and won by TKO.
