LAS VEGAS, NV – AUGUST 10: (RL) Sergey Spivac of Moldova knocks down Marcin Tybura of Poland in a heavyweight bout during the UFC Fight Night event at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Al Powers/Zuffa LLC)
The main event of UFC Vegas 95 featured some interesting twists, including the fact that Marcin Tybura came in at an underdog in his rematch against Sergey Spivac despite winning the first bout.
Tybura also told Cageside Press before the fight that he had nothing to gain from the bout.
That doesn’t mean it won’t be an entertaining fight, though. At least, we can only hope so. Spivak certainly started off on the offensive with a big left punch. From there, “Polar Bear” dragged Tybura to the fence, tied him up and took him down. Just 40 seconds into the fight, he tried to take the back, but he ended up tumbling backwards while dragging Tybura with him. However, he couldn’t quite get the back, and Tybura reversed and settled into Spivak’s guard, ripping open the body.
But just when it looked like Marcin Tybura was gaining the upper hand, Spivak grabbed his arm from underneath. He regained his position and twisted his arm while still on his side, forcing a quick tap! Sergey Spivak won by submission in the first round, avenging his 2021 decision loss to Tybura and his first win since losing to Cyril Gane last September.
Moldova’s Spivac is four-and-one from his last five fights, with his lone loss coming against former interim heavyweight champion Gane.
Official result: Sergey Spivac defeats Marcin Tybura by submission (armbar), Round 1, 1:44
