Sharavdin Magomedov patented his finishing move for UFC 308.
One of the most entertaining fighters on the middleweight roster, ‘Shara Barrett’ lived up to expectations on the main card of UFC 308 against Armen Petrosyan on Saturday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Magomedov kept Petrosyan at bay from the opening bell with a strong kicking game, then scored the knockout with a devastating double spinning backfist towards the end of the opening frame.
Knockouts with spinning backfists are generally rare, but Shara Barrett’s double backfist was the first in UFC history. Magomedov later revealed that it was the first move taught to him by his older brother Marat Magomedov when he began training in Muay Thai. Magomedov attempted to land the fight several times throughout his career, but never succeeded until UFC 308.
“When I first started Muay Thai, this was the first thing my brother Marat showed me.” [Magomedov]. I trained, and trained, and trained, but I could never get it to land. And today I decided it, and it worked, ”Magomedov said in the post-fight interview. “This is mine, I’m going to patent this shot. This is my shot now.”
Magomedov later named the move “double bullet” and joked that fighters using this move in the future would have to pay him interest.
“Yes, they said backfist finishes are rare,” he said in the post-fight press conference. “But a double backfist KO has never happened before. I’m very happy. And now I have patented this attack – it’s called ‘Double Bullet.’ …From now on, whoever wins this strike will have to pay me interest. ”
Magomedov is currently unbeaten in four fights in the UFC, including two finishes and three post-fight bonuses.
