Coveted mixed martial arts prospect Paul Hughes insists the choice between the Professional Fighters League and the Ultimate Fighting Championship was a no-brainer for him.
After ending his Cage Warriors Fighting Championship contract with a first-round knockout of Fabiano Silva last month, Hughes briefly explored free agency before signing with the PFL. ‘Big News’ recently explained that while there were offers in the UFC, they don’t compare to the PFL.
“that [the choice] To be honest, it wasn’t that difficult.
[The PFL’s offer] It was much better, much better,” Hughes said on “The MMA Hour.” [the UFC] There were offers, but they weren’t…no, they weren’t [a Contender Series offer], it was mentioned, but it wasn’t specific and that was it.that [the PFL’s]
It was a much better offer and I really didn’t have to think twice. ”
Although PFL declared itself co-leader of the industry after acquiring Bellator, UFC remains the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion. Hughes revealed that he was constantly criticized by people for his choices, but most of them were people who didn’t understand the complexity of the sport.
“Some people were very disappointed. But the people who are actually in the industry, who actually know me, were really overjoyed. I mean, they were really happy with the details and the payments and all that kind of stuff. They’re like, “Oh, I want to see him in the UFC.” That’s because they watch the UFC on Saturday and want to see me there as well. But they don’t know the details. But over time, to be honest, I became more and more satisfied with my decision. Honestly, I’m really happy… People have said all sorts of things and kept saying all sorts of things, but I didn’t care at all because I knew that was going to happen every time I signed. Is not … ”
Hughes is scheduled to make his promotional debut in a match against Battle against Bobby King (12 wins, 6 losses) at the Bellator Champion Series in Dublin on June 22nd. The Irishman is already planning a call-up based on his chances of winning, along with the trajectory of his career in the promotion over the next five years.
“Yes, it’s part of the plan for 2024, and there are plans. Believe me, I didn’t come here just to make a fuss or just have a quick fight. “This is to stop the takeover and change the landscape of the PFL,” he said. “Really, that’s what I came here for. Tournaments, but also this. There’s a one-year plan, a two-year plan, a three-year plan. And after I knock out this guy I’m going to call next. It’s a one-year plan that people will see on June 22nd.”
