Merab Dvalishvili’s victory drew huge crowds in his native Georgia.
Video posted by Setanta Sports showed crowds of fans gathering in the streets of Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, to watch Dvalishvili defeat Sean O’Malley by unanimous decision to win the bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 306 at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Setanta Sports’ Giorgi Kokiashvili said the crowd was more than 10,000. Dvalishvili, a native of the nation’s capital, has won 11 consecutive UFC bouts. In addition to O’Malley, “The Machine” has beaten Henry Cejudo, Petr Yan, Jose Aldo, Marlon Moraes and John Dodson, to name a few.
