Chelsea Chandler can’t seem to find her ceiling at bantamweight.
After two consecutive weeks of fights overseas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Las Vegas for UFC on ESPN 61. Headlining the 10-bout card is a heavyweight matchup between Marcin Tybura and Sergey Spivak. Tybura is the bigger man inside the cage, weighing in at 14 pounds heavier than Spivak.
While both heavyweights made it in with ease, three other fighters on the card were unable to weigh in. Most notably, co-main eventer Jose Mariscal was 3.5 pounds over the featherweight limit for his bout against Damon Jackson. But that wasn’t the biggest mistake. Chelsea Chandler was five pounds over the bantamweight limit for her bout against Jana Santos, the second time she had failed to weigh in for the group. Additionally, Danny Barlow was a quarter of a pound over the welterweight limit. All fighters will be fined a percentage of their prize money, but will otherwise continue fighting as scheduled.
Taybulla (25-8) enters the main event with a three-fight winning streak, coming off a submission win over Tai Tuivasa. The win gave “Taybulla” another win, following a loss to Tom Aspinall. Meanwhile, Spivak (16-4) was recently defeated by Ciril Gane. Prior to this loss, “Polar Bear” had won three straight bouts over Derrick Lewis, Augusto Sakai and Greg Hardy.
The main card of UFC on ESPN 61 will air on ESPN and ESPN+ on Saturday at 7pm ET/4pm PT, with prelims beginning at 5pm ET/2pm PT on the same platforms.
