Although Conor McGregor’s return will not be as originally planned, Ultimate Fighting Championship has made the best of a bad situation. The alternative UFC 303 main event will be a good one as Alex Pereira will fight former titleholder Jiri Prochazka for the belt. Both fighters successfully weighed in for a highly entertaining rematch of a 2023 fight in which the Brazilian won his second UFC belt. As for the rest of the fighters on the card, all of them successfully weighed in except for Jean Silva, who weighed 1.5 pounds over the featherweight limit for his fight against Charles Jourdan. As a result, Silva will be fined 20% of his prize money.
Pereira (10-2) has become a fan favorite with his brutal knockouts and willingness to fight anyone. Since moving to light heavyweight, “Poatan” has won three straight bouts over Jan Blachowicz, Prochazka and Jamahal Gil. In their first bout, the talented Brazilian won the belt with a brutal elbow strike. Pereira stepped on the scales at 204.5 pounds.
Prochazka (30-4-1) will be looking to reclaim his light heavyweight title in the rematch. Since his first bout, “BJP” has fought just once, defeating Aleksandar Rakic ​​with punches. The UFC 303 main card begins Saturday at 10pm ET/7pm PT on ESPN+ pay-per-view, with prelims beginning at 6pm ET/3pm PT on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass before moving to ESPN+ and ESPN at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
