Ultimate Fighting Championship’s final pay-per-view event of the year is set after the UFC 310 weigh-ins.
The centerpiece of the mixed martial arts promotion’s return to Las Vegas is a flyweight championship fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Octagon newcomer Kai Asakura. Both fighters were successful in achieving their weight class, but this was not a given as Asakura had previously fought at bantamweight. However, two fighters missed weight, with Anthony Smith going 1.5 pounds over the light heavyweight limit against Dominick Reyes and Brian Battle going 4 pounds over the welterweight limit against Randy Brown. Both matches are scheduled to continue, and overweight players will be fined a portion of their money.
Pantoja (28-5) is coming off an impressive six-fight winning streak that earned him the 125-pound title. “The Cannibal” stripped Brandon Moreno of the title via split decision and has since successfully defended the belt twice against Brandon Roybal and Steve Arseg. The 34-year-old Brazilian weighed in at 124.5 pounds for his second UFC pay-per-view headliner.
Asakura, a former RIZIN bantamweight champion, will make his UFC debut with a professional record of 21 wins and 4 losses. The 31-year-old has won five of his past six fights, with notable victories over Juan Archuleta, Kyoji Horiguchi and Yuki Motoya. The hard-hitting Japanese fighter has a reputation for action and tipped the scales at 124.5 pounds.
The main card of UFC 310 will be streamed live on ESPN+ pay-per-view starting at 10pm ET/7pm PT. Prelims begins at 6pm ET/3pm PT on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass, then moves to ESPN+ and ESPN2 at 8pm ET/5pm PT .
