Tom Aspinall has given Jon Jones the respect he deserves, even though he’s been losing his fighting style lately.
Jones has his heavyweight title on the line against Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309 on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. They were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 295 in November 2023, but Jones withdrew due to injury. Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovic in a quick interim title fight on the same card.
Jones has since been adamant about facing Miocic, even though Aspinall has defended his title against Curtis Blaydes, and Miocic has not fought since a heartbreaking KO loss to Francis Ngannou in 2021. Not yet. Aspinall may never get the chance to unify the titles, as both Jones and Jones have. Miocic hinted at retirement while talking about his future after UFC 309.

This led Aspinall to become a constant critic of Jones, with Jones claiming that he had nothing left to prove. However, “Ratel” gave Jones due respect and defeated the former light heavyweight champion’s fighting style. The Briton, who is also the backup for the UFC 309 headliner, recognized Jones as one of the most knowledgeable fighters he has ever seen. In addition to Jones’ well-rounded skill set, Aspinall also particularly highlighted “Bones'” grip strength after locking hands for a double leg takedown.
“His knowledge of MMA is one of the best I’ve ever seen in MMA,” Aspinall told TNT Sports. “I have to say this, I have to do it to him…His offense is very diverse and he will go.” [teep] On the front foot, he lifts head kicks, fakes takedowns, delivers spinning elbows… What Jones does really, really well is often when he joins his hands in a double leg, breaking it It’s so hard to… Once his hands are locked and he starts to pull his opponent away, he almost always completes the takedown… His ground and pound is the best I’ve ever seen Some of the best. He has the best elbows in MMA. ”
