If “The Funk Master” wants to fight the No. 5 ranked featherweight, he can.
Aljamain Sterling made a successful featherweight debut at UFC 300, completely dominating the extremely tough Calvin Kattar and earning a clear unanimous decision victory. After his big win, Sterling moved up the featherweight rankings by stealing the No. 8 spot from Qatar.
After the match, Sterling requested a match with two-time featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega (and Ortega agreed). But when a match with his fellow wrestler and No. 5 ranked Movsar Evloev caught his attention, he said it would be fun.
“I prefer the Ortega fight because I’m going for the belt. If there’s a fight and you give me a choice, I’m going to choose the highest ranked fighter,” Sterling said in MMA. Told. time. “It’s not that a fight with Mofusah wouldn’t be fun. The way two grapplers grapple together, it would be a very fun fight…If you have a style like mine and his, Diego Lopez would be fun. I think it could be a fun fight, just like the fight we had.”
It’s rare for a top-15 player to mention an undefeated Russian, and Evloev was aware of that.
“@funkmasterMMA So brave of you to talk about me. I love it! Call the UFC and fight me. I’m ready,” Evloev wrote on Twitter.
Evloev is 8-0 in the UFC, coming off a unanimous decision victory over Arnold Allen at UFC 297 earlier this year.
