The Ultimate Fighting Championship kicks off in September with a return to Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night 242.
Headlining the 12-bout card are Gilbert Burns and Shawn Brady. While both welterweights made it to the weigh-in, the other two did not. Kyle Nelson (148.5) was 2.5 pounds over the weight limit for his featherweight bout against Steve Garcia, while Dylan Bucca (188.5) was 2.5 pounds over the middleweight limit for his bout against Andre Petroski. As a result, both fighters will be fined a percentage of their prize money and will also have to pass medicals.
This will be Burns’ (22-7) third UFC main event appearance. “Durinho” is looking to bounce back from two consecutive losses to Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. Prior to his latest setback, the Brazilian had won three of his last four fights, including wins over Jorge Masvidal and Stephen Thompson. The former title challenger weighed in at 171 pounds when he stepped on the official scale.
Meanwhile, this will be Brady’s first UFC main event. The American recently submitted Kelvin Gastelum via kimura in his first fight since suffering his first career loss to Muhammad. Prior to the loss, the 31-year-old Brady was 5-0 inside the Octagon. Brady’s official weight was 171 pounds.
UFC Fight Night 242 will be streamed in its entirety on ESPN+ on Saturday, with prelims beginning at 4pm ET/1pm PT and the main card starting at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
