The Ultimate Fighting Championship grudge match that could have decided the title will be held several months later than expected.
On the October 5th card of UFC 307 in Salt Lake City, the UFC will pit Movsar Evloev (18-0) against Aljamain Sterling (24-4) for the No. 1 possibility. We were having a battle. 1 contestant contest at 145 lbs. Sterling missed a contest with an injury in September, and the promotion opted not to bring in a second-half replacement. Instead, after about two months, the two collide. The UFC announced the news on Friday that Evloev and Sterling will be handling duties at UFC 310 on December 7th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In this rescheduled top-tier grappling-focused tilt, Evloev will put his undefeated record on the line. Evloev is currently tied for the most undefeated wins among active fighters in major MMA organizations. The Russian joined the UFC in 2019 and got off to a good start with two decision wins over Choi Seung Woo and Enrique Barsola. Since then, he has racked up six more wins inside the Octagon, all six of which came at the hands of the judges.
Former bantamweight kingpin Sterling moved to featherweight to pave the way for teammate Merab Dvalishvili to chase gold. “The Funk Master” won the strap from Petr Yan in 2021 when Yan was disqualified for throwing a foul knee. His three defenses against Yan, TJ Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo set a record for consecutive defenses of the UFC bantamweight title. Sterling surrendered his belt to Sean O’Malley, prompting a move to 145 pounds. His debut in the heavyweight division went well, as he skillfully outperformed perennial title contender Calvin Kattar and climbed into the rankings.
UFC 310 will take place on December 7th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Currently, there are no headliners listed, but there are many matches registered involving top-ranked fighters. A rescheduled heavyweight rematch between Cyril Gane vs. Alexander Volkov strengthens the lineup, as well as a potential title eliminator between Tatiana Suarez vs. Vilna Jandirova at 115 pounds and Nick Diaz vs. 170 pounds. Other matches are also scheduled, including Vicente Luque’s match against Bangor.
