Uros Medic recently revealed that his fight wallet is his least favorite part of being a UFC athlete.
The welterweight prospect picked up a first-round knockout of Tim Means on Saturday night at UFC on ESPN 55 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. During the post-fight media scrum, Medic revealed that he was making more money in his previous job than in the UFC. However, Medic also acknowledged that this promotion provides fighters with the opportunity to earn a large paycheck over time.
“It’s not the money that’s important. [most enjoyable] Indeed,” said the medic. “I was making more money before the UFC. I quit a really good job to become a fighter. I mean, it’s not about the money, that’s one thing. But the UFC makes a lot of money. I knew there was an opportunity. You wouldn’t get a big paycheck right away, but as you grow and earn more time with the company, you could make a good amount of money.”
With the win, Medic bounced back from a submission loss to Miktibek Olorubai in his last promotional appearance. Prior to Saturday’s fight against Means, Medic expressed frustration at not being given a performance bonus for his past two knockout wins in UFC competition. The 31-year-old, who has never gone that far in his career, was one of four fighters to earn an extra $50,000 in prize money at UFC on ESPN 55.
As for potential opponents, Medic has his sights set on undefeated welterweight contender Ian Garry. Medic believes he can defeat the Irishman by knockout, although he acknowledged that the fight was unlikely to happen.
“Some of the guys I want to fight are already in the top 15. They’re not going to bother me and they’re all going their own way. [the] Title,” the medic said. “But I’ve seen a lot of guys and I didn’t think they were a big threat, probably Ian Garry. He’s a big guy. Even though he doesn’t exactly fight me yet. , I watch some of his matches and think, “Hey, how is this guy even above me in the rankings?” In my humble opinion, I’d knock him out…he’s an interesting figure online. I don’t know him personally. Maybe he’s not a bad person, but he’s definitely a target of bullying. ”
