Usman Nurmagomedov will defend his lightweight title against Alexandre Chabry in the main event of the Bellator Champions Series on September 7 in San Diego.
The promotion announced the bout in a release on Tuesday. The event will take place at Pechanga Arena and air on Max in the U.S. It’s part of Bellator’s schedule for September, which includes back-to-back weekend events. One week after Bellator San Diego, Johnny Eblen will defend his middleweight belt in a rematch against Fabian Edwards at Bellator Champions Series London.
“September is shaping up to be an important month for Bellator Champions Series, and we continue to work hard to deliver a fantastic card that we know the global MMA community will enjoy. San Diego and London are huge markets for us and we are confident we can deliver the show that fans in person and watching from around the world on Max and Dazn want,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said in a release. “Thanks to our world-class roster, we’re able to deliver two cards in two weeks, and as we announce more fights and events, the future looks incredibly bright for PFL and Bellator.”
Nurmagomedov was originally scheduled to face Chabry at the Bellator Champions Series in Paris on May 14, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an undisclosed injury. Nurmagomedov is undefeated in 18 professional fights. His last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Brent Primus at Bellator 300, but the bout was declared a no contest after the Dagestan fighter tested positive for an undisclosed banned substance. Nurmagomedov was not stripped of his belt, however.
Chabry, meanwhile, is in the midst of an unbeaten streak that dates back to 2017. Most recently, the unbeaten Russian defeated Patrick Freire in five rounds at Bellator 301 last November.
