Themba Golimbo entered his welterweight bout against Vicente Luque at UFC 310 in Las Vegas a bit on short notice.
This match was originally scheduled to feature Nick Diaz’s return. It was originally scheduled for the summer, but was postponed and then canceled entirely due to Diaz’s absence for unknown reasons. Enter Golimbo, who shot to fame with the support of professional wrestling legend and Hollywood star The Rock.
Luque vs. Golimbo didn’t last long. Vicente Luque dropped Gorimbo in a close early fight. Luque then took the neck, first catching Golimbo with a guillotine choke and then rolling into an anaconda. The choke was tight, and Golimbo tried in vain to fight, but he couldn’t. He was cold before he tapped, and the referee’s watchful eye quickly caught it.
A very impressive victory with a super tight anaconda choke from Vicente Luque. Themba Golimbo may not be as famous among MMA fans as Nick Diaz, but this win should still be a boost for Luque.
“I’m back. I’m back to finish everyone off,” Luque exclaimed while speaking to Joe Rogan after his win. As for what’s next, “I want to move up,” the Brazilian said, adding he has his sights set on breaking into the top 10. However, if “Gamebred” returns, a fight with Jorge Masvidal would also be attractive.
Official result: Vicente Luque def. Themba Golimbo (anaconda choke) via submission, round 1, 0:52
